"Kalon Breizh"(*): heart of Brittany

(*) Breton in the text

In this land of mountains and traditions, experience the very soul of contemporary Breton culture. Its small valleys, forests and beautiful rivers make the perfect backdrop whether you're looking for leisure activities or just to relax in the open air.

"Green" Brittany

Heart of Brittany is full of hidden charms: moors, forests, groves, marches, bogs ... Because of the diversity and quality of its natural environment, Brittany is a prime area for many bird species: about 415 species visible in Western Europe, 263 can be regularly observed in Brittany.

The discovery of this natural wealth can be done with more than 12 000 km of marked hiking trails. The GR ("Grande Randonnée") 34, also known as coastal footpath offers alone 1 700 km of hiking, with nearly 100 listed walks.

Another way to discover Brittany is through river tourism, thanks to its 600 km of waterways. A quality label distinguishes 29 cities each of which has an outstanding river or natural heritage and offers boaters recreational activities.

Cultural Britain

With more than 3 000 listed buildings or historic monuments, Brittany is the first of the French heritage areas, outside the "Ile-de-France". This heritage is characterized by its exceptional diversity, both religious, military, maritime and archaeological. Menhirs and dolmens of the prehistoric period, timber-framed houses of the old medieval cities, churches, monasteries and chapels of all periods from the Romanesque, castles and manors, but also fortified cities ... All these centuries old heritage are here in Brittany !

Sixty cities and municipalities bear the label "City of Character", "Historic Cities", "Cities of Art and History" and "Commons of rural heritage" of which Ploërdut is one. They offer visitors good entertainment (exhibitions, guided tours, craft shops ..)

The richness of the Breton cultural heritage is also expressed by the dynamism of its festivals: From music to theatre through films, not forgetting traditional events !
